What is the Nationwide Switch? Nationwide pays £175 for switching your current account to them. FlexDirect is their free account, and the one we’d pick.
⏳ No end date has been announced, but switch offers change often, so check before you start.
How to claim it
- Open a FlexDirect account in the Nationwide app or online and choose a full switch from a bank that isn’t Virgin Money. The account you’re moving needs at least 2 active Direct Debits.
- Complete the switch within 28 days of opening.
- Within 31 days, pay in £1,000 and make at least one card payment.
- Your £175 is paid within 10 days of meeting everything.
Handy hints
- Good to know
- What you need: 2 Direct Debits, a full switch, £1,000 paid in and one card payment.
- Is it free? Yes, FlexDirect has no monthly fee.
- Need Direct Debits? Plum or Moneybox can set up free monthly Direct Debits to yourself. Keep them monthly, as quarterly ones aren’t always counted.
- Follow every step: read the bank’s switch offer terms carefully and do each step within the time limits. Miss one and you can lose the bonus.
- Space out applications: each new account can show on your credit file, so don’t open lots at once.
- Worth staying: once you’ve switched to Nationwide, we’d keep it. A Nationwide current account plus a little in their savings can get you the yearly Fairer Share bonus (£100 this year). You can carry on switching your other accounts for bonuses.
- One switch only: only your first Nationwide switch bonus since 2021 counts.
- Earning more
- Monthly cashback: FlexDirect pays £5 a month for spending £500 on the card, and another £5 for £300 of Direct Debits, for the first year.
- 5% interest: keep £1,500 in the account to earn 5% for the first 12 months.
